Kismet Kitsch!

I'm so excited! Call it what you will; kismet, fate, destiny, fortune, fate, sometimes everything in your world just aligns and amazing things fall into place all of a sudden. That's pretty much where I am right now. Let me tell you, it's pretty awesome!

For the last two years, I've been living with my boyfriend and life partner, Chris in an ultra modern, sleek and shiny townhouse.  It's been an adventure! My personal decorating style tends toward french country and shabby chic. None of that would fly in our current home! When we made the decision to combine our households, I chose to give the contents of my former home to my eldest child who was leaving the next and getting a place of her own. It was the right decision. Life have been humming along and I embraced the clean lines and austerity that our townhouse calls for....until a few weeks ago.

A little over a month ago, I became OBSESSED with vintage pyrex.  I have no idea why but suddenly I was pinning photos of mid century casserole dishes and mixing bowls on Pinterest and then I began scouring yard sales, thrift stores, antique markets, etsy and ebay to find pieces. I have read so much about Pyrex that my daughter says I'm a walking encyclopedia on the subject. I've joined forums and Facebook groups devoted to the passionate Pyrex collector. If you aren't a collector, you probably won't understand. Until late August, I'd never collected any thing at all! The whole notion of collecting ANYTHING seemed kind of silly to me. Why on Earth would anyone choose to buy things they might never use just to HAVE them? I've always tried to stick to the advice of William Morris, "Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." But, THEN, I discovered Pyrex and in turn, rediscovered my love for all things vintage. I knew that all of the wonderful, kitschy items which were stealing my heart would never find a happy home in our ode to steel and glass and straight lines.

Until...kismet. Before I moved to Atlanta, my son decided it would be a good idea to move in with his father. I wasn't thrilled with the idea but I always try to respect my children's decisions so long as they are safe and so I agreed to allow my little guy to go ahead and give it a try. All was mostly well until I received a phone call from my ex-husband informing me that my son would be moving home again. Suddenly our townhouse was too small, but never fear! As fate would have it, my very best friend dabbles in investment homes. He is purchasing a lovely bungalow in one of my favorite neighborhoods, Grant Park. So, on the 29th of this month, I and my two teenagers will move into the most precious 1920's craftsman style cottage! Talk about lady luck!

Once the wheels were in motion and I knew I would become my friend's tenant I quickly decided to decorate the entire home in vintage goodness. So far, I've secured a gorgeous vintage formica table and 4 chairs, a fabulous vintage living room suit and more kitchen kitsch than you can shake a stick at! We've chosen paint colors and I've even purchased a porch swing for the front porch (pictured above)!

Stay tuned for updates as I begin putting all the pieces together to create my vintage dream home!
